This residence utilizes a palette of raw materials to create a home that is as sustainable as well as visually pleasing. By blending the warmth of exposed wire-cut bricks with the structural elegance of granite and timber, along with LIME MORTAR and LIME PLASTER, the design creates a tactile & olfactory experience. The exterior is predominantly dominated by sloped terracotta tile roofs and deep overhangs, which not only depicts the traditional styles but also serves effectively to improve the thermal comfort of the interior spaces. The architectural language of the home is rooted in Modern Vernacularism.
The wide veranda at the entrance is welcoming, spacious and comfortable and serves as an effective space to entertain guests and as a buffer to the more private spaces inside. The sit-out also establishes a connection with the streetscape. The interior spaces in the ground floor are centred around an expansive, open-plan living, family and dining core. The transition from formal living to the family lounge is seamless, emphasized by high ceilings and natural light.
The upper level is dedicated to the privacy and rest of the family. Three spacious bedrooms are arranged around a central circulation spine, each featuring private ensuite bathrooms and ample wardrobe space. A massive open-to-sky terrace serves as an elevated courtyard, perfect for evening gatherings or a private garden. A dedicated study provides a quiet sanctuary for work-from-home needs, tucked away from the main social zones.
The Material Palette uses Exposed Brickwork, Grey Granite, Teak Wood, and Terracotta Roofing. Large openings and louvered screens facilitate continuous cross-ventilation. Multiple decks and semi-open verandas ensure that every room has a visual or physical link to the landscape. The use of double-height spaces creates a sense of grandeur and airiness throughout the central family zones.
